Appropriating Timothy Leary

Today is Sunday.

Today I claim its tradition, a day of rest

Rest from the voices of friends and others

Rest from a logorrheic stream-of-consciousness barrage of word salad

Rest from verbal pinball wizardry, the flips and clangs in a game racing along, going nowhere and

Impulsively firing me off in four directions and destinations at once testing a proof of quantum entanglement

Rest from Authority’s voices clad in black robes, masked in white robes, uniformed in camo costumes

Rest from text messages, emails, pop-up ads, conman phone calls, screeds hawking childish trumped-up fictions

Rest from the fibrillating heart, the bear hug around the chest and lungs, the frenzy then torpor of the nervous system.

Today is a day of rest

Reset

I will appropriate and turn on its ear Timothy Leary’s voice

Today I will turn off, tune out, and drop in

On myself.
